Paying attention to Christ’s commandments leads to the effective disarming of Satan’s hindrances. If disregarded, Satan’s temptations will continue to harass us.
God’s reconciliation (Rom 10:9-11) grants us the authority by which all oppression from Satan can be overcome (Lk 10:19), things like dissatisfaction, sickness, indifference, greed, violence, and more. God’s instructions remain unchanged, so that Jesus’ works may continue through us (Mk 16:17).
His abundance remains as irrevocable promises to us (Jer 1:12). Psalm 23:5 declares: Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.
Near the beginning of His ministry, Jesus told John’s disciples: Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached, Luke 7:22.
To demonstrate the power of God’s Kingdom He said to the twelve: Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you, Luke 10:19.
These serpents and scorpions are symbolically recorded as demonic powers of Satan, with which he poisons our lives and burdens us with suffering.
A closer look at Jesus’ spoken commands points to the removal of problems that seem insurmountable ... referred to as mountains: For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith, Mark 11:23.
Every believer has been entrusted with the power and strength of God to exercise victory. However, it remains a personal decision to do it. Ignoring Christ’s commandments tolerates Satan’s oppression, worsening over time (Mt 12:45).
James explains it this way: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you, James 4:7.
Exactly that is your responsibility.
Learn to defend yourself spiritually.
Take responsibility like Jesus did. When the devil tempted Him, Jesus countered him with authority: "It is written," and turned to the scriptures.
After that, Satan left Him until another opportunity.
And what does that mean for you? Simply this: God's instructions are prepared for your well-being. By grace He gave them to you in advance, to show you by way of the commandments.
Take it seriously. Act with prudence and responsibility. And most importantly, stick with it.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
